My dog is a chameleon pup. When the mood is mellow, he loves to curl up under the duvet and sigh heavily until I tuck the blanket's edges in. However, the moment he's let out on the long leash in the snowy tundra, he's suddenly a winter dog, fueled up to pull a sled and ready to scale any mountain. Without realizing how silly they look in a puffy jacket and snow booties, dogs enjoy the wintertime far more than their hoomans. And yet it's these joyous, pure moments with our dogs that go down in the memory catalogs for good.
A dementor from Harry Potter could come try to grab a dog lover, and the first happy memory they can think of to ward them off stars their pawsitive pup. Dogs have that way about them, oozing positivity and wholesomeness with every turn. Naive, goofy, and unbelievably clumsy, dogs embody a sense of goodness humans can't fathom, chugging along and embracing the fun, the adventure, and the relaxation that we dream of in this life.
So if you have a dog and you're tired of bundling up to take them outside for their evening relief, remember that this animal is more than just a strange familiar that you care for and feed, this little furball is a dog: A good boy (or girl) who cherishes every moment with their favorite hooman. Even when it's below freezing, and their toebeans are sliding around outside, they're just happy to be included in whatever activities their human has planned. Because when your dog is with you, they're their happiest, and when we're with them, life somehow seems simple, easy, and pawsitivey whimsical.
